If you are new to my blog, I will try to give you a brief summary...This blog was created for me to share my experiences during my time in Haiti. I felt called by God to move to Haiti in the fall of 2010. I spent six months living and volunteering at Faith Hope Love Infant Rescue. It was an amazing time in which I learned about myself, God, and the struggles of living in a third world country. While living there, I feel completely in love with the children at FHLIR.
Eventually, I felt God calling me onward to something else. I moved back to the U.S. to visit my family and figure out what God wanted me to do next. It was very difficult leaving Haiti without knowing when I would return. During my time in the U.S, and opportunity arose and I made the decision to teach kindergarten and pre-k at TLC Barefoot School in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.
I spent a year teaching kindergarten at TLC Barefoot School. I enjoyed every minute with my kindergarteners, however, it was the most difficult year of my life personally. At the end of the school year, I made the decision to leave Haiti. I thought it was going to be a permanent move, but the Lord had other plans for me.
Yet another opportunity arose to return to Haiti. I was asked by a friend of mine if I would move to a small city called Gonaives to teach at their school. I almost didn't even consider it because I had already decided to stay in the U.S. But, something tugged at me and told me to think and pray about it. After several days, the Lord revealed to me that he was answering my prayers from the previous year at TLC by providing me with this opportunity. So, I agreed to with only three weeks time to mentally prepare, purchase flight tickets, and pack my things.
So, here I am. Living in Gonaives and working in the poorest ghetto that I've seen in Haiti. I am challenged daily and stretched more than I thought possible. So get comfy and read about the ups and downs of an imperfect girl messing things up and learning how to do this thing called life.
